In order to preserve the peace I have established rules for my apartments.
After 10 Pm until 8 Am you must not produce noise that can be heard outside of your apartment. At all other hours noise can be audible but not intrusive, rude or annoying. Your neighbors get to sleep at night and enjoy reasonable peace and quiet all day.
It can be very helpful to introduce yourself to your neighbors and others in your building and share contact info in case a problem arises. If a quick text can solve a problem everyone will be happier. It is also wise to understand that it is virtually impossible to be quiet enough while entertaining friends. Schedule all entertaining to end at least by 10 Pm. We all know people who lack self control and have a need to make an ass of themselves, do not invite them over. Do not talk outside on a porch, deck, yard or sidewalk past 10 PM. Do not play the stereo past 10. Do not run the blender at midnight or decide to rearrange the furniture at 2 in the morning. Please use some common sense.
If ever asked to be quiet, do so, immediately, apologize and make plans for it not to happen again.
Do not yell. If you need to fight loudly with your boyfriend go to his house. If you need for someone to hear you and they are too far away, move yourself closer to them so they can hear you without you having to yell. Being loud and obnoxious is not OK.
